What's new in Lumen.

Fixed

• Setup buttons on Samsung phones. On some phones, Get Started, Continue and the other setup buttons needed many taps. One tap is enough now. (#1)
• Naming a person from Search. When Search suggested a name for a face, the Done button stayed grey. You can save the suggested name now.
• One person, shown twice. After you named a person from Search, Search showed them twice. It shows them one time now.
• Long-press to select. Sometimes long-press did nothing until you closed and opened Lumen again, for example after you took a screenshot. Long-press works every time now.
• Videos that stop. While Lumen indexes your videos in the background, a video you were watching could stop after a second. It keeps playing now.

New

• Unrestricted Battery. Lets indexing keep going after you leave Lumen. Turn it on during setup, or go to Settings, then Smart Search, then Unrestricted Battery.

Changed

• New icons for Faces and Subtitles.

Fixed

• Subtitles. In 0.1.3, Lumen closed when you made subtitles for a video. Subtitles work again.

New

• Ask before delete. When Media Management is on, Android deletes without asking. Lumen now asks you before it moves items to Recently Deleted or deletes them forever. (#3)
• Update notice. When a new version is available, Lumen tells you one time, and a red dot shows on the Settings button until you update.

Changed

• Liquid Glass is off by default. Buttons, bars and menus are solid. To use glass, go to Settings, then Appearance, then Liquid Glass. If you turned Liquid Glass on before, it stays on.

New

• Search finds text from paused videos. Lines that you read in a paused video are added to its search index.

Fixed

• Update screen. The notes are formatted, they scroll, and the Install button is always on screen.

Behind the scenes

• The smart features now come from Lumen AI, a separate open source library. Your index, faces and text stay. Nothing is indexed again.

New

• Select text in paused videos. Pause a video, then long-press the text on the screen. Copy, Search and Share work the same as on photos.
• Liquid Glass setting. Go to Settings, then Appearance. Turn off Liquid Glass to get solid buttons, bars and menus. Turn on Reduce Blur to keep the glass with less blur. Less blur is easier to read and uses less of the GPU.
• Appearance step in the first setup. Choose the theme and the glass before you start.

Faster

• Text in photos shows immediately. Lumen now keeps the position of each line when it indexes your photos. Lumen reads photos with text again one time, while your phone charges, to get these positions.

Fixed

• Long-press now selects text after you swipe to the next photo.
• The first setup does not show "When to Index" if you do not download the Smart Features.

Fixed

• The first setup follows your theme. In light mode, the setup screens are now light. Before, they were always dark.

The first release of Lumen: a photo gallery for Android with the smart features of Google Photos and the iPhone Photos app. All of the smart features work on your phone. Nothing leaves your phone.

Highlights

• Smart Search. Find a photo from a description, for example "cat on a sofa".
• Text in photos. Find photos from the words in them. Select and copy text in a photo.
• People. Lumen finds faces and puts the photos of each person together.
• Subtitles. Lumen writes subtitles for the speech in your videos.
• Hidden. Hide photos behind a PIN, a pattern, a password, or your fingerprint. You can also encrypt them.
• No account, no Google Play services, no cloud, no advertisements, and no analytics.

The smart features are optional. Lumen downloads their models only when you ask, about 340 MB or 770 MB. After that, they work without the internet.
